Derek Keller

Principal

Derek joined Highway 12 Ventures in 2010, after having worked as an Associate with the fund in 2008. Prior to joining the firm he spent 2009 in San Francisco with the $1B middle-market private equity fund Huntsman Gay. He also spent two years prior as a Senior Associate with the University Venture Fund based in Salt Lake City, where he led investments in mobile, web, consumer products and financial services.

As a vc by day, and startup coding geek by night, he continues to straddle the fence as both an investor and an entrepreneur. He’s still trying to shake the side effects of qwerty shortcut mastery and countless weeks in investment banking training, but finds relief on weekends as a semi-professional couch surfer. When not recuperating from his latest downhill mountain biking or snowboarding spill, he enjoys snapping landscape pictures and the life of a marginal musician.

With his background in both finance and software development, he provides a unique perspective and focuses primarily on web and mobile verticals. Derek graduated with a BS in Finance from Brigham Young University.
