My wife Tina and I had the pleasure of honoring Sharon Allen, Chairman of the Board of Deloitte, as she received the Legacy of Leading award from her alma mater, the University of Idaho. Sharon’s accolades are numerous and well deserved, but I wanted to touch on some highlights so more people can understand her remarkable career:
- Born in Kimberly, Idaho.
- Attended the University of Idaho, switched from an education to accounting major at the urging of her roommate.
- One of the first women hired by Touche Ross in Boise, Idaho. At the event, her offer letter was read. Certainly different times. She has worked for Deloitte for 36+ years.
- Became first managing partner for Deloitte at the Boise office in mid 1990’s.
- Became the first woman to join the all male Arid Club in Boise, another first.
- Managed the Portland office and then became managing partner of Los Angeles, the largest office of Deloitte. The office had more personnel than her hometown.
- Sharon is serving her second 3 year term as Chairman of the Board of Deloitte. She is the first female chairman of a large professional services organization.
- Named by Forbes as one of the 100 most powerful women in business for the last 4 years.
- A large number of philanthropic pursuits, including the YMCA and United Way.
Sharon Allen has earned the highest levels in business, all while doing it the right way. She is a leader in every sense of the word and during her career has continually been “first”. I am proud to say she if from Idaho and congratulate her with her latest award.
